About The Club
The Lunch Club for People Living With Dementia offers a friendly, safe and stimulating environment for people diagnosed with dementia. We also aim to provide a short respite to family members or carers, who, knowing the person they care for is in good hands, can take some valuable time out for themselves.
From November 2020 we are happy to announce we are running weekly online activities for members! From 2pm to 3pm on Thursday afternoons we have crafting, bingo, singing, race nights and much more. To get involved, please contact hello@mkhelpinghands.org.uk or call 07858 552 767 for a membership application form.
Members share lunch, activities, afternoon tea and entertainment each week, alongside our dedicated team of volunteers. Activities, such as crafting or games like dominoes or scrabble are designed to encourage participation and engagement with others as well as being enjoyable. Lunch is usually soup and sandwiches freshly prepared on site, though on special occasions we may celebrate with something fitting the day! Afternoon tea includes home baking generously donated by volunteers. Entertainment is usually musical, and everyone participates in a way which suits them; singing, dancing, or just relaxing and listening. We also run trips, particularly in the summer, to favorite sea side towns or local places of interest.
The Club is aimed at those in the earlier stages of dementia who are still living at home. The Club is run entirely by our team of dedicated volunteers, who are skilled and experienced at engaging with those living with dementia. However, our volunteers are not carers and are unable to provide the kind of support or care necessary for those in the later stages of dementia.
There is a suggested donation of £5 per session to help cover the cost of catering.
Meeting Times
How to Join
As one of our key aims is to provide respite to carers, and due to the finite nature of our volunteer resources, the Club is not open to those who are in residential care. Members entering respite care will be considered for continuing attendance during their stay on a case by case basis, though will always be welcome to return to the Club once their respite stay is over.
Transport
Transport is not available for this activity.
