About the Befriending Project
We are delighted to announce our new Befriending Project! The Project aims to provide companionship to people aged 65 and over who may be feeling isolated or lonely.
At Mearns Kirk Helping Hands, we understand how important companionship is. With this in mind, we are delighted to announce that we are piloting a Befriending Project in Newton Mearns and the surrounding areas for older, isolated people.
With a grant from the National Lottery Community Fund we are able to provide one to one companionship from a team of trained, committed and friendly volunteers. Current restrictions mean that this will intially be provided over the phone or via video call, though in some cases volunteers may be able to accompany people to a local cafe. In future the Project will provide home visits, or somebody to go out to a social activity with.
