Befriending For People With A Diagnosis of Dementia

Befriending for people with a diagnosis of dementia is designed to provide weekly one to one companionship.  It can also provide unpaid carers with a short respite break.  The service is suitable for people in the early to mid stages of their dementia diagnosis who are still living at home.

To access this service, a professional who knows the person must complete a referral form. This could be a GP, social worker or paid carer. When we receive the completed form, we will check that the person being referred meets the criteria for the service.  If so, we will get in touch  and arrange to come and carry out a fuller assessment to help us with the matching process.

To be referred for this service, you must have a diagnosis of dementia and be living in East Renfrewshire.  Due to funding for this service, priority will be given to people with Young Onset Dementia. You must not be receiving any other services which provide social support or companionship.

Please note we can't accept self referrals, referrals from family members/ friends or referrals for people who are residents in care homes.

Professionals can access a copy of the referral form below.
