Posted: 10 March 2026
On Monday 9th June, volunteers with Mearns Kirk Helping Hands were presented with the King’s Award for Voluntary Service by the Lord Lieutenant of Renfrewshire, Colonel Peter McCarthy.
The event celebrated volunteers past and present, with Fiona McLeod, Chair of Trustees, paying tribute to the many and varied contributions made by volunteers to the success of the charity. Fiona also expressed thanks to Reverend Joe Kavanagh, who had the vision of a community charity supporting wellbeing and reducing isolation and loneliness back in 2016.
The crystal award was accepted on behalf of all volunteers by Isobel Dawson, Trustee of Mearns Kirk Helping Hands and leader of the Lunch and Social Club for People Living with Dementia. Isobel was also presented with a certificate by Mary Montague, Lord Provost of East Renfrewshire.
